Where does my data go? On-device local models (Gemma / LiteRT): your prompts stay on your phone; turn on Total Privacy Mode and all cloud connections are blocked (0 bytes sent to cloud AI). Gestu Pro (managed AI): requests you send to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash are processed by DeepSeek via pro.gestu.ca. Plainly When you use Gestu Pro, your prompts are sent through pro.gestu.ca and processed by DeepSeek. When you use your own API key (BYOK), your prompts go directly from your phone to that provider and are governed by their privacy and training policies. Either way, your files, sandbox work, conversations and memories stay on your phone — a cloud model only ever sees what you put in the message: the text you send, or a file you choose to attach. Why Gestu instead of ChatGPT or Gemini?

ChatGPT and Gemini are excellent at answering. Gestu is built to act: it reads your inbox, runs your calendar, stages messages, drives other apps, and opens a Debian Linux terminal with coding agents on the phone you already carry. It is one flat yearly price — US$99 Founders, then US$149 — not a ~US$20/month chat subscription.

Where does my data go? Does Gestu Pro send it to DeepSeek?

On-device models never leave your phone, and BYOK requests go straight from your phone to the provider you chose — Gestu's servers are not in that path. Managed Gestu Pro requests go through pro.gestu.ca to DeepSeek, which processes them under Gestu's account: you need no DeepSeek account or key, and no country of processing is promised. Total Privacy Mode blocks all cloud routing.

What happens if I cancel, or hit the monthly allowance?

Nothing on your phone is deleted or locked. Chats, memories, projects and any installed Linux environment stay. At the fair-use ceiling a dialog keeps you working with your own key or an on-device model until the meter resets on the 1st. Cancel anytime; access runs to the end of the paid year.

How many devices can I use?

One device per licence. A seat can be released in the app. If a new phone claims it after the old device has been idle for 14 days, it replaces it; otherwise release the old device first.

Why is the app not on Google Play?

The FOSS build ships SMS, notification and accessibility tools that Play restricts. Releases are signed, and every build publishes its SHA-256 checksum so you can verify exactly what you install. The Play build, when it ships, omits those permissions.

Do I need an account?

No. Checkout emails you an activation code; paste it into Settings → Gestu Pro. The licence binds to your device, and there is no Gestu account or password to manage.
