3. How to sideload Gestu on Android
-
01
Download the APK on your Android device
Tap Download APK above in Chrome, Firefox, or Brave on your Android phone. Once downloaded, tap the completed file notification or find gestu-latest.apk in your Downloads app.
-
02
Allow installation from your browser
If this is the first time you've installed an APK directly from your browser, Android will prompt you to open Settings → Install unknown apps and toggle Allow from this source for your browser. You can turn this toggle back off right after installation.
-
03
Choose your local model or activate Gestu Pro
On first launch, Gestu works right away. If you want completely offline on-device chat, open Settings → Local Models to download a Gemma / LiteRT model over Wi-Fi. If you subscribed to Gestu Pro, head to Settings → Gestu Pro to paste your activation code.
4. About Google Play Protect on first install
Why is the full-featured Gestu APK distributed directly from gestu.ca rather than the Google Play Store? Google Play policies restrict third-party apps from requesting full SMS automation, accessibility actions, and direct APK installation permissions — the exact capabilities that let Gestu act as a true hands-free assistant and build/install apps on your phone.
5. System requirements
- Operating System: Android 8.0 Oreo (API level 26) or newer.
- Processor Architecture: 64-bit ARM (arm64-v8a).

- RAM: 4 GB minimum for Gestu Free (BYOK) and Gestu Pro cloud inference; 6 GB – 8 GB+ recommended if running optional local models on-device.
